Psychological Safety

Why psychological safety is important

Success in complex environments requires new ideas, new challenges, and critical thinking. People have to feel free to speak their minds, even if their idea is not robust yet. To facilitate this, an organization can’t do without a culture of Psychological Safety.

What we offer

PragmaticAll and Creative Elephant have combined forces to create a comprehensive portfolio of services to help create or improve Psychological Safety. Regardless whether you’re just starting to explore Psychological Safety or if you’ve already taken some steps, we have something to help you move ahead. Below is an overview of our services.

Assessments

Do you know how safe your team members feel to ask questions, express their opinion, take risks, raise problems, admit mistakes, or be themselves? Is it the same for each person in the team? What does it depend on? If it could be improved, where should you start?

You can ask these questions yourself, but will you get an honest answer?

Our assessment allows you to find out the answers to these questions, while protecting confidentiality of the people that feel that their environment is not psychologically safe.

Setting up structures

How do you lower the risks so that employees actively engage in open discussions, proposing ideas, raising concerns etc.? One way is to design and implement structures to elicit employee input.

We have examples of several different structures that you could implement, and can help you to implement them effectively. You can let us brief you and then do it yourself, or we can implement them together.

Just to give you a flavour of what we can help with: focus groups, peer mentoring, employee-to-employee learning structures, failure/learning parties, celebrity interviews, anonymous constellations, heard/seen/respected.

Leader coaching

Leaders have a big impact on the perception of psychological safety in a team or organization. Their status or power lend more weight to what they say and do. Disagreeing with a leader is a bigger risk than disagreeing with a peer.

A lot can be learned from simply “shadowing” a leader for a day.
